About Lake Minatare

Lake Minatare Elementary is the smallest building in the Scottsbluff Public School District. Although the history of the school dates back to 1889, the current school building was completed in 1966, and designed to accommodate the newly consolidated districts of Lake Minatare, Fairview, Hillcrest and Hope. Now, it is the neighborhood school made up of five classrooms with an attendance area of 160 square miles.

Even though it is a smaller school, Lake Minatare Elementary has blended the curriculum and structures of the larger district with the spirit and customs of the country school.

The school community cherishes the character and closeness of a small school. Families become close to the teachers and look forward to the unique activities and experiences of each classroom. The school has a strong, supportive parent body that shares the schools high expectations for behavior, character development and academic achievement.

Principal's Message

Lake Minatare Community,

My name is Ashlen Schaneman, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Lake Minatare School. This marks my fourth year here and my ninth year within Scottsbluff Public Schools. Prior to joining Lake Minatare, I spent six years teaching in various grades from 1st to 6th, followed by administrative roles at Lincoln Heights and Westmoor Elementary Schools.

Ashlen SchanemanOriginally from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, I pursued my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics at the University of Northern Colorado. After teaching in Fort Morgan and Fort Collins, Colorado, I moved to Scottsbluff with my husband Garrett, who grew up here. We are proud parents to Carter, now in 5th grade, and Ava, who will be starting kindergarten this year. We cherish raising our family in this vibrant community alongside our three dogs and cats.

In addition to my teaching experience, I earned my Master’s Degree in Administration from Chadron State College and recently completed my doctorate in Educational Leadership. These experiences have shaped my approach to education and leadership, and I am committed to fostering a supportive and enriching environment here at Lake Minatare.

Our school accommodates grades Kindergarten through 5th grade with five classrooms, providing a comprehensive education that includes art, music, P.E., and computer skills. I am excited about the opportunity to build upon the school's rich history and continue to serve our community and families with dedication and passion.

Thank you for welcoming my family and me into the Lake Minatare community. I look forward to working together to ensure every student thrives academically and personally.

Dr. Ashlen Schaneman
